Lead Software Engineer – Storage

About the role

As a key member of Couchbase's storage development team, you will enhance highly scalable and performant storage engines used by Couchbase Server and Couchbase Capella. You will design and build enterprise‑grade, highly‑available, concurrent system software that directly impacts customer success.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop new features for high‑performance, highly reliable storage engines.
• Take ownership of product components, driving technical solutions from concept to production.
• Collaborate with peers to define requirements, architectural approaches, testing, and support strategies.
• Produce enterprise‑level quality code for a highly‑available system and investigate customer‑facing issues.
• Provide detailed technical specifications for internal and external teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• 5+ years of experience building enterprise‑grade infrastructure or systems software.
• Self‑motivated, independent, and able to learn quickly while tackling challenging problems.

Required skills

• Proficiency in C++, Golang or Java.
• Experience designing and writing concurrent/multi‑threaded programs.
• Deep knowledge of operating system concepts, Linux I/O stack, and data structures.
• Understanding of database internals and performance analysis/debugging.
• Familiarity with LSM trees, distributed systems, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) is a plus.
