Lead Software Engineer - Java Backend

About the role

Join Mastercard's Operations & Technology Fraud Products team to build new capabilities for the Decision Management Platform, a patented Java‑based system that processes billions of transactions each month. You will work on high‑performance, low‑latency services that help combat fraud and validate cardholder identity.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain production‑grade backend services using Java, Spring Boot and gRPC.
• Collaborate with technical leads to define architecture, implement features, and ensure high availability.
• Lead design discussions, perform code reviews, and enforce engineering standards.
• Drive adoption of modern CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud‑native practices on AWS.
• Integrate with messaging systems (Kafka, MQ) and business rule engines (IBM ODM).

Required profile

• 8‑12 years of professional software engineering experience, primarily in Java.
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to lead through influence.
• Deep understanding of distributed, event‑driven architectures and advanced design patterns.
• Proven experience delivering scalable, high‑performance backend services.
• Familiarity with Agile development, automated testing and secure coding standards.
