Lead Arborist

About the role

The Lead Arborist will oversee advanced tree care operations, ensuring safety and quality while working at height in diverse canopy environments. This senior position combines hands‑on climbing expertise with leadership of rigging, pruning, and removal projects.

Key responsibilities

• Perform modern arboricultural practices at a high level, including pruning to ISA standards.
• Climb and work safely in tree canopies of any size using SRS, MRS, and traditional methods.
• Execute spur‑assisted hazard tree removal and large‑limb rigging.
• Operate aerial lifts, brush chippers, stumpers, and chainsaws with precision.
• Install static and dynamic cabling and bracing systems.
• Conduct aerial rescues and ensure all PPE and safety protocols are followed.
• Collaborate effectively with colleagues and communicate clearly with clients.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years of professional arboriculture experience.
• Post‑secondary education related to arboriculture.
• Strong client communication and customer‑service skills.
• Valid driver’s licence with a clean abstract.
• Working at Heights, WHMIS and First Aid certifications.

Required skills

• SRS and MRS climbing techniques.
• Spur‑assisted hazard tree removal.
• Aerial lift operation.
• Technical rigging for large‑limb and tree removal.
• Static and dynamic cabling installation.
• Brush chippers, stumpers and chainsaw operation.
• 0‑8 tonne crane competency (asset).
• ISA Certified Arborist or Ontario Certified Arborist (asset).
• Utility Arborist 444B and IHSA Line Clearing Safety awareness (asset).
