ICU Registered Nurse – Critical Care

About the role

An ICU staff nurse provides critical, round‑the‑clock medical care and continuous monitoring for unstable, seriously ill, or recovering patients in the intensive care unit.

Key responsibilities

• Check and record vital signs hourly, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and oxygen levels.
• Perform full head‑to‑toe examinations to assess neurological status, wounds, and device placements.
• Monitor fluid intake and output to detect electrolyte imbalances or complications such as shock.
• Administer intravenous fluids, blood products, and prescribed medications safely.
• Manage and maintain advanced equipment such as mechanical ventilators, cardiac monitors, and specialized lines.
• Respond immediately to life‑threatening emergencies and assist physicians with bedside procedures.
• Maintain detailed electronic medical records and chart patient progress accurately.
• Provide clear shift‑change handovers and update doctors on subtle changes in patient status.
• Offer emotional support and explain treatment plans to patients’ families.

Required profile

• Active registered nurse (RN) degree or nursing license with specialized ICU training.
• Proficiency in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and critical care protocols.
• Strong crisis‑management abilities, high attention to detail, and physical stamina.

Required skills

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Operation of mechanical ventilators.
• Management of cardiac monitoring equipment.
• IV therapy administration.
