Head of Electrical Engineering – Power Systems

About the role

The Engineering Head – Electrical & Power Systems will lead end‑to‑end electrical engineering activities for EHV/MV/LV substations and power system projects. The role provides strategic oversight of primary and secondary engineering, system studies, tendering and multidisciplinary coordination while ensuring compliance with national and international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage complete electrical engineering functions across projects, defining strategies, standards and best practices.
• Oversee preparation, review and approval of Single Line Diagrams, protection schemes, schematic diagrams, control logics and interlocking philosophies.
• Provide expert guidance on AIS/GIS substation engineering up to 400 kV, including conductor sizing, sag‑tension analysis and short‑circuit force calculations.
• Lead load‑flow, short‑circuit, motor‑starting and stability studies using ETAP and manual methods, and interface with utilities for grid connectivity.
• Supervise detailed engineering deliverables such as cable schedules, illumination, earthing, lightning protection designs and BOQs, ensuring compliance with IS/IEC/IEEE standards.
• Review and approve substation general arrangement drawings, equipment layouts, erection diagrams and grounding plans for constructability and safety.
• Approve sizing and selection of power transformers, CTs, PTs, circuit breakers, isolators, lightning arresters, switchboards, MCCs, DC systems, UPS and related auxiliary equipment.
• Mentor and develop engineering teams, fostering technical excellence and knowledge transfer.

Required profile

• Demonstrated technical leadership in electrical engineering projects for power systems.
• Experience guiding multidisciplinary teams and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
• Ability to review and approve complex engineering designs and studies.

Required skills

• ETAP software for power system studies.
• Preparation and review of Single Line Diagrams and protection schemes.
• Design of AIS/GIS substations up to 400 kV.
• Conductor sizing, sag‑tension analysis, short‑circuit force calculations.
• Load‑flow, short‑circuit, motor‑starting and stability analysis.
• Knowledge of IS/IEC/IEEE standards.
• Sizing and selection of power transformers, CTs, PTs, circuit breakers, isolators, lightning arresters, switchboards, MCCs, DC systems, UPS and batteries.
• Preparation of cable schedules, earthing, lightning protection designs and BOQs.
