Head of Department - Electrical & Instrumentation

About the role

The HoD Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) is responsible for the asset management, reliability and maintenance of the plant's electrical distribution systems, instrumentation networks and automation platforms. The goal is maximum plant availability, optimal energy efficiency and zero safety incidents, leading a high-performing engineering team. The position reports to the Plant Head / Vice President (Operations) and is based at the plant site in Siltara.

Key responsibilities

• Direct daily maintenance, troubleshooting and engineering functions for electrical and instrumentation networks
• Formulate annual OPEX and CAPEX budgets and track monthly expenditure
• Manage statutory compliance and liaise with the Chief Electrical Inspectorate, State Electricity Boards and Pollution Control Boards
• Oversee HV/HT substations, transformers, switchgears, numerical protection relays, captive power plant sync and LT distribution; drive energy conservation, power factor optimization and power quality audits
• Ensure DCS, PLCs, SCADA and emergency shutdown systems remain available; manage calibration, maintenance and upgrades of field instruments, control valves and CEMS
• Implement predictive, preventive and condition-based maintenance via CMMS platforms such as SAP-PM; enforce LOTO, arc flash and earthing safety; lead root cause analysis on breakdowns
• Optimize spare parts inventory and manage OEM vendors and annual maintenance contracts

Required profile

• B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering or Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering
• 15 to 20+ years in heavy manufacturing or process industries (steel, cement, power, chemical, oil & gas), with at least 5 years leading an independent E&I department
• Valid Electrical Supervisor Certificate of Competency (Class A / Chartered Engineer) highly preferred
