Furniture Designer

About the role

The Furniture Designer will join Camelot’s boutique interior design studio in Mumbai, creating handcrafted colonial, Art Deco and mid‑century pieces. This full‑time, on‑site position blends artistic vision with technical precision to deliver bespoke furniture that meets both aesthetic and functional standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conceptualise and sketch new furniture ideas aligned with Camelot’s design language.
• Produce detailed 2‑D technical drawings using AutoCAD, including plans, elevations, sections and joinery details.
• Prepare hardware placements, construction details and a basic Bill of Materials for production.
• Translate reference images, catalogue designs and concept sketches into buildable, production‑ready drawings.
• Collaborate closely with the founder, design team and carpentry workshop to ensure drawings are practical and clear for execution.
• Maintain a library of standard designs, sizes and specifications.
• Conduct quality checks and finalise pieces before production.

Required profile

• 2–3 years of experience creating furniture drawings for solid‑wood projects.
• Strong understanding of carpentry techniques, joinery, wood behaviour and furniture proportions.
• Hands‑on experience with custom furniture workshops and solid‑wood construction.
• Creativity and problem‑solving ability to balance form and function.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Familiarity with colonial, mid‑century or Art Deco styles is a plus.

Required skills

• AutoCAD (2‑D) – advanced proficiency.
• SketchUp – basic to intermediate knowledge (bonus).
• Solid‑wood furniture construction techniques.
