Firmware Engineer – Device Software

About the role

SPAN is looking for a Firmware Engineer to join its Device Software team in Bangalore. You will work on the low‑level software that runs on SPAN’s smart panels and future hardware, delivering reliable, high‑performance firmware for microcontrollers and embedded Linux platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and ship firmware features from bootloaders to RTOS‑based applications in C/C++.
• Build secure OTA update mechanisms across multiple communication interfaces and processor families.
• Collaborate with system architects to create data‑streaming architectures that meet both data‑science and safety requirements.
• Represent the Device Software team in cross‑functional meetings, promote engineering best practices, and conduct code and design reviews.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience writing software for hardware devices (microcontroller or embedded Linux) using C or C++.
• Strong grasp of modern software design, object‑oriented principles, and manual memory management.
• Hands‑on experience with common electrical interfaces such as UART, I2C and USB.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a proven track record of taking ownership of projects.

Required skills

• C and C++ programming.
• Microcontroller development (e.g., STM32) and embedded Linux.
• Real‑time operating systems (RTOS) and OTA update frameworks.
• Functional‑safety standards (UL 60730, ISO 26262, IEC 61508, UL 1998).
• Wireless technologies: Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee.
• Use of electronics lab equipment for hardware debugging.
