Electrical Shift Engineer – Hydro Power Plant

About the role

The Shift Engineer (Electrical) is responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of all generating units, auxiliaries and balance‑of‑plant systems at a large hydro/pump‑storage power plant. Reporting to the Head of Operations, the role ensures compliance with statutory, environmental and cybersecurity regulations while leading the shift team during day‑to‑day activities.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and control generation units, auxiliaries and balance‑of‑plant equipment to achieve target generation and availability.
• Prepare and coordinate generation schedules (day‑ahead, intraday) with internal and external stakeholders.
• Issue, verify and close Permit‑to‑Work (PTW), isolation and LOTO procedures, ensuring complete documentation.
• Inspect plant systems for hazards or defects and coordinate corrective actions with maintenance and service providers.
• Lead the shift team, delegating tasks to engineers and technicians to maintain optimal plant performance.
• Compile daily, monthly, quarterly and annual operation reports and checklists.
• Support PPA compliance, DSM management and settlement processes.
• Implement IMS documentation and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years of operational experience in hydro power generation, preferably in large‑scale pump‑storage plants.
• Strong knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements (CEA, CERC, DSA, SCEI, AP/CPCB, Cybersecurity).
• Proven experience leading shift teams of engineers and technicians.
• Familiarity with CMMS and performance analytics tools for optimization and risk assessment.
