Director of Software Engineering

About the role

The Director of Software Engineering will lead NextGen’s portfolio of healthcare interoperability products, shaping the technology strategy that supports the company’s long‑term vision. In this senior role you will own the full software development lifecycle for a large API solution and multiple platforms, driving engineering excellence across diverse technology stacks.

Key responsibilities

• Define technology roadmaps, architecture standards and development practices aligned to business objectives and scalability requirements.
• Oversee the full software development lifecycle for a large API solution and multiple interoperability products across varied stacks and deployment models.
• Build, lead and develop high‑performing engineering teams through recruiting, mentoring, coaching and retaining managers and individual contributors.
• Establish and mature the engineering operating model, including resource planning, prioritization, capacity management, delivery governance, risk management and support processes.
• Ensure software quality, security and regulatory compliance with healthcare industry standards.
• Partner with Product Management, Enterprise Architecture, Customer Support and other cross‑functional stakeholders to define priorities and deliver shared capabilities.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to define and monitor metrics that measure team outcomes, delivery health and business impact.
• Drive technical transformation initiatives such as self‑service interoperability tooling, developer experience improvements and AI‑native engineering practices.
• Work with Customer Support leadership to define support policies and escalation practices across U.S. and India time zones.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least 10 years of experience in software engineering.
• 5+ years of leadership experience in engineering or technical management roles within Healthcare IT.
• Experience in the healthcare IT industry with knowledge of the U.S. healthcare system and applicable regulatory requirements.
