Director of Software Development Engineering

About the role

Envestnet is seeking a Director of Software Development Engineering to lead a high‑impact engineering organisation. You will drive the modernisation of a large‑scale legacy Java/J2EE monolith into an API‑first, cloud‑ready platform that powers next‑generation wealth‑tech services. The role combines strategic technology leadership with hands‑on engineering excellence in a highly regulated environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead engineers, architects and engineering managers to deliver platform modernisation and cloud adoption.
• Define and execute technology road‑maps aligned with business objectives and architectural strategy.
• Champion AI‑assisted software development, automation and platform engineering to boost productivity and delivery speed.
• Drive domain decomposition, API enablement, test automation, observability and engineering productivity improvements.
• Partner with Product, Architecture, Security, Risk and Business leaders on strategic initiatives.
• Establish KPIs for modernisation progress, software quality, reliability and developer productivity.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, security, audit and operational risk requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or a related field.
• Proven experience leading large engineering teams in complex, regulated domains.
• Strong track record of modernising legacy systems and delivering cloud‑native solutions.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
