Director of Software Development – Alexa Ambient Computing (India)

About the role

Join the Alexa Ambient Computing Technologies (AACT) team to lead the engineering effort behind the world’s largest IoT AI assistant. As Director of Software Development India you will own all India‑based charters, guiding teams in Bangalore and Chennai to deliver fast, reliable, and AI‑first services at massive scale.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive technical strategy for critical initiatives such as new Alexa modalities, multi‑turn conversations, and next‑generation inference/orchestration infrastructure.
• Set the strategic direction for AACT’s India sites and lead senior engineering managers, software engineers, TPMs, and SQEs.
• Own Operational Excellence for India‑based services, ensuring availability, latency, security, and cost efficiency, including on‑call and incident response.
• Champion responsible adoption of generative AI and agentic tooling across products and development processes.
• Build talent, mechanisms, and culture that enable rapid, safe AI‑driven development while maintaining customer trust.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 15+ years of software engineering experience.
• 8+ years of experience managing senior engineering managers.
• Proven ability to solve complex, ambiguous technical problems and influence cross‑functional teams.
• Strong intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, and creativity.
