Director of Referees

About the role

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is seeking a senior leader to head its refereeing programme across the country. The Director of Referees will oversee the development, appointment and performance management of elite and national match officials, acting as the primary liaison with the Asian Football Confederation and FIFA on all refereeing matters.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day operations of elite and national match officials, including men’s and women’s Level 1‑5 officials.
• Appoint and supervise Category A‑C elite referee assessors, instructors and coaching teams.
• Develop and deliver standardized technical training programmes for elite and national officials.
• Oversee FUTSAL and Beach Soccer officiating appointments and development pathways.
• Maintain and update performance merit tables, merit lists and registration records for all active referees, assessors and instructors.
• Provide performance feedback, conduct reviews and ensure continuous professional development of officials.
• Represent AIFF in meetings with competitions, clubs, AFC and FIFA, offering expert advice on refereeing issues.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of a long‑term referees development plan and strategic objectives of AIFF.

Required profile

• Proven senior experience in football refereeing administration or a related sports governance role.
• Demonstrated ability to manage large groups of officials and assessors across multiple competitions.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, including interaction with national leagues, clubs, AFC and FIFA.
• Experience in designing and delivering referee training, assessment and development programmes.
• Ability to produce and analyse performance reports and merit tables.
