Director of Engineering – AI & Full-Stack SaaS

About the role

Redwood is seeking a Director of Engineering to shape the strategy and execution of a highly scalable, enterprise‑grade SaaS platform. The role blends deep software engineering expertise with practical AI/GenAI adoption across the product lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor multiple engineering teams delivering enterprise SaaS products.
• Define and execute engineering strategy, technical roadmap, architecture and development standards.
• Drive development of secure, reliable, cloud‑native SaaS applications across backend, frontend, APIs and microservices.
• Champion AI/GenAI tools to improve development, testing, code quality and automation.
• Partner with Product, Architecture, DevOps, Security and other cross‑functional teams to deliver critical capabilities.
• Establish best practices for design, coding, testing, CI/CD, observability, performance and reliability.
• Own delivery, quality, scalability and operational excellence across multiple product areas.
• Foster a high‑performing engineering culture focused on innovation, ownership and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• 15+ years of software/product engineering experience with senior leadership roles.
• Proven track record leading large, multi‑team engineering organizations.
• Strong background in enterprise SaaS product development and full‑stack architecture.
• Excellent architectural and technical problem‑solving capabilities.
• Demonstrated people leadership, stakeholder management and communication skills.

Required skills

• Java and Spring Boot (or comparable enterprise backend technologies).
• Microservices, APIs, distributed systems and cloud‑native architectures.
• Hands‑on experience with AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Modern frontend technologies and full‑stack development practices.
• DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing and engineering productivity tools.
• AI/GenAI technologies, LLMs, Generative AI, AI agents and AI‑powered developer tools.
• Workflow automation, orchestration and enterprise automation platforms.
