About the role
The Director, Employment Tax acts as the primary subject‑matter expert on employment tax matters for Mastercard. Working closely with cross‑functional stakeholders and external providers, the role drives global employment tax initiatives, translates complex multi‑jurisdictional regulations into sustainable operating models, and advises on regulatory developments affecting the worldwide workforce.
Key responsibilities
- Execute and support a global employment tax strategy that balances compliance, risk mitigation, financial accuracy, operational efficiency, and cost optimisation across all jurisdictions.
- Serve as trusted advisor on employment‑tax implications for workforce strategy, mobility programmes, M&A, organisational restructuring and emerging workforce models.
- Interpret and operationalise complex employment‑tax and social‑security legislation in line with company policies, internal controls and governance.
- Lead tax‑planning initiatives, providing technical guidance on compensation and benefits taxation, multi‑jurisdictional tax, recharge treatment and employer reporting.
- Assess worker‑classification matters, emerging engagement models and related tax exposure.
- Manage employment‑tax due diligence, integration and restructuring for mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and legal‑entity changes.
- Facilitate resolution of employment‑tax audits and disclosures, coordinating with tax authorities, external advisors and internal stakeholders.
- Support internal audit activities, including SOX compliance, payroll tax controls and financial‑statement audits.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, Business Administration, Law or a related field.
- Extensive employment‑tax experience in a multinational organisation or Big 4 global employer/mobility tax services.
- Proven track record managing tax audits, supporting M&A, global expansion or large‑scale payroll and finance transformation initiatives.
- Experience with equity‑compensation taxation and stock‑administration systems such as E*TRADE, Fidelity or Shareworks.
- Strong understanding of payroll and finance systems, including data flows between payroll, tax engines and the general ledger; experience with ADP, Workday or SAP.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management abilities, with a capacity to translate tax issues into clear financial risk assessments.
