Direct Support Professional – Registered Behavior Technician

About the role

The Direct Support Professional – Registered Behavior Technician (DSP‑RBT) provides supervision, protection and care for individuals with developmental disabilities in a variety of settings. The role combines direct personal support with implementation of behavior support plans and ensures a safe, therapeutic environment.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise individuals, enforce house rules, and respond to crisis situations while following Individual Behavior Support Plans (IBSPs) and health‑safety protocols.
• Assist with activities of daily living, medication administration, meal preparation, transportation, and community integration.
• Document daily observations, progress notes, incident reports, and other required paperwork in the electronic health record.
• Support skill development using teaching methods such as task analysis, EMOE, and trauma‑informed approaches.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; must obtain Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification within one year of hire.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills, basic computer proficiency, and ability to use Workday and email systems.
• Physical ability to lift/move individuals up to 25 lb, perform frequent walking, standing, bending and emergency interventions.
• For California positions: at least six months direct care experience and completion of state DSP training.
