Design Engineer – Casting (Automotive EV Products)

About the role

ALTEN India is seeking a Design Engineer specialized in casting to develop aluminum and magnesium components for electric‑vehicle powertrain systems. You will work on e‑axle, reducer, HV motor, inverter, OBC/DCDC, actuator and cooling system parts, collaborating closely with CAE, manufacturing and supplier teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop cast housings, covers, brackets, motor and gearbox casings, and structural components.
• Create detailed 3D models and drawings using CATIA V5 / 3DEXPERIENCE.
• Apply DFM/DFA guidelines, define GD&T per ASME Y14.5, and perform tolerance stack‑up analysis.
• Conduct parametric modeling using skeleton and Boolean methods.
• Support prototype, tooling, validation and production activities.
• Maintain product data in PLM systems (Teamcenter / Enovia / 3DX).

Required profile

• 4‑5 years of experience in casting design for automotive/EV powertrain products.
• B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
• Hands‑on knowledge of high‑pressure, gravity and sand casting processes.

Required skills

• CATIA V5 (Part Design, Assembly, Drafting)
• High Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) design
• Gravity Die Casting and Sand Casting
• Core & cavity concepts, draft angle, rib, boss, wall‑thickness optimization
• Shrinkage and machining allowance calculations
• GD&T and tolerance stack‑up analysis
• DFM/DFA for casting processes
• PLM tools: Teamcenter, Enovia, 3DX
• Aluminum and magnesium casting expertise
• Injection molding (advantageous)
• Machining process understanding
• Surface treatment and coating requirements
