Design & Drafting Engineer – French Speaker

About the role

We are seeking a Design & Drafting Engineer who is fluent in French to join our automation team delivering instrumentation and control systems for oil‑and‑gas projects. Reporting to the Automation Project Discipline Lead, you will ensure high‑quality engineering deliverables from concept through construction and commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Quality‑check and guide 2D/3D CADD drafting and design work.
• Prepare and review instrument loop diagrams, control‑system cabinet layouts and wiring schematics.
• Participate in design reviews and HAZOP studies.
• Develop instrumentation deliverables in Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI) including instrument indexes, I/O lists, equipment lists and alarm rationalisation.
• Create and maintain P&IDs and instrument data sheets.
• Perform instrument selection, specification and inline device sizing calculations.
• Generate material requisitions, technical bid evaluations and control narratives with cause‑and‑effect diagrams.
• Review and approve vendor documents and mechanical equipment packages on behalf of the automation scope.
• Provide on‑site field support to construction and commissioning teams.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Instrumentation/Control Systems.
• 5‑10 + years of instrumentation design/engineering experience in the oil & gas sector.
• Familiarity with Alberta oil‑sands safety regulations and relevant codes (API, ASME, CSA, ISA).
• Fluency in French and English.
• Professional registration (ASET C.E.T./P.Tech or APEGA P.Eng) is an asset.
