Customer Journey Software Engineer - AVP

About the role

Barclays is hiring an AVP Software Engineer for its Customer Journey team in Bengaluru, within the Customer Digital and Data business area. The role leads the design, development and delivery of secure, scalable and resilient applications, with primary accountability for customer journey solutions, combining hands-on engineering, technical oversight and project delivery ownership on key web technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Build high-performing teams and drive engineering excellence through modern architecture, automation, security, CI/CD and operational best practices.
• Lead, develop and contribute to a high-performing mobile engineering team to deliver high-quality customer experiences.
• Design, develop and support secure, scalable, high-performing applications, including code reviews, architecture governance, troubleshooting and technical delivery.
• Define and implement engineering standards, patterns and best practices, and drive adoption of modern CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, security controls and release automation.
• Collaborate with Product Owner, Solution Architect, Security, Platform and QA teams, and ensure compliance with enterprise security, risk, governance and regulatory requirements.
• Mentor and coach the team, support recruitment and onboarding, and champion DevSecOps, observability and reliability engineering.

Required profile

• Experience designing, building, testing and operating production services with React, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS, AWS, Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience building production services, distributed systems or shared platform capabilities.
• Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly, collaborate across teams and time zones, and support other engineers.
• AVP level expectations: advise on decisions, lead a team, set objectives, coach employees and manage risk and controls.

Required skills

• DevOps: GitLab, Terraform, Ansible, Datadog, containers and Helm.
• Node.js build tooling, RESTful APIs, authentication, authorization and identity management.
• Highly valued: PING ID, Java, Google Cloud, secure code engineering.
