Buyer – Procurement Specialist

About the role

VPG, a global leader in precision measurement sensing technologies, is looking for an experienced Buyer to join its Purchase team in Oragadam, Chennai. The role focuses on ensuring timely delivery, cost‑effective sourcing, and strong supplier relationships for both non‑BOM and CAPEX materials.

Key responsibilities

• Secure on‑time delivery and develop alternate sources for assigned commodities.
• Maintain QMS records (ISO 9001, IATF 16949) and manage supplier audits, including new supplier assessment and pilot runs.
• Issue RFQs, prepare comparative statements, negotiate contracts, and panel optimal suppliers.
• Coordinate with cross‑functional teams (planning, production, quality, logistics, finance) for daily activities.
• Handle GRN, IR, COC documentation, payment releases, and periodic reconciliation.
• Manage CAPEX and non‑BOM material purchases, from supplier identification to order finalisation.
• Oversee service agreements, ensure their validity, and process monthly invoices.
• Facilitate scrap disposal through auction processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Procurement or Business Management.
• Minimum 10 years of procurement/buying experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
• Proven track record with non‑BOM and CAPEX procurement.

Required skills

• Strategic sourcing, RFQ management and supplier negotiations.
• Cost analysis, price benchmarking and commodity market evaluation.
• Supplier paneling, alternate source development and long‑term relationship management.
• Understanding of technical drawings and process knowledge (Machining, PCBA, Cable Assembly).
• Familiarity with QAD MRP system and advanced MS Office skills.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 standards.
