Buyer – Procurement Specialist

About the role

VPG, a global leader in precision measurement sensing technologies, is looking for a motivated Buyer to join its Purchase team in Oragadam, Chennai. The role focuses on ensuring timely delivery, cost‑effective sourcing, and strong supplier relationships for both non‑BOM and CAPEX materials.

Key responsibilities

• Manage RFQs, prepare comparative statements and negotiate with suppliers to secure optimal pricing.
• Develop and maintain alternate sources and supplier panels for assigned commodities.
• Conduct supplier audits, performance monitoring, and long‑term relationship development.
• Coordinate with cross‑functional teams (planning, quality, production, logistics, finance) to ensure on‑time delivery and accurate documentation (GRN, IR, COC).
• Oversee CAPEX and non‑BOM material purchases, service agreements, and scrap disposal through auction.
• Maintain QMS records in compliance with ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Procurement or Business Management.
• Minimum 10 years of procurement experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
• Proven track record with non‑BOM and CAPEX sourcing.

Required skills

• Strategic sourcing and RFQ management.
• Supplier negotiation and cost analysis.
• Price benchmarking and commodity market evaluation.
• Supplier paneling, alternate source development, and long‑term relationship management.
• Understanding of technical drawings and process knowledge (machining, PCBA, cable assembly).
• Proficiency with QAD MRP and MS Office.
