Backend/Platform Engineer (FastAPI, Python, AWS)

About the role

TheNextDoorAI is looking for a Backend/Platform Engineer to own the core APIs, data layer, and infrastructure that power its AI‑first products. You will work on high‑performance services, manage cloud resources, and integrate large language models to keep the platform reliable and smart.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain FastAPI services and REST APIs using Python 3.11.
• Model relational data, write efficient queries, and manage migrations with SQLAlchemy and Alembic on PostgreSQL.
• Deploy and operate AWS infrastructure (ECS, S3, CloudWatch) with Docker containers.
• Build CI/CD pipelines for web, mobile, and desktop releases, ensuring zero‑downtime deployments.
• Orchestrate AI/LLM workflows with Anthropic Claude, Gemini, and Vertex AI, handling prompts, streaming, and cost optimization.
• Integrate third‑party services such as payments, calendars, telephony, and email.
• Implement monitoring, backups, and security best practices to guarantee reliability.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience building production‑grade backends in Python.
• Strong expertise in relational data modeling and ORM usage.
• Hands‑on experience with AWS services and containerisation (Docker).
• Ownership mindset: you write, test, monitor, and maintain your own code.
