Auxiliary Nurse – Compassionate Care at St Margaret Hospice

About the role

The Auxiliary Nurse provides direct, hands‑on care to patients in a hospice setting, working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. No statutory nursing qualification is required, as comprehensive training will be provided to ensure safe and compassionate support for individuals facing life‑limiting illnesses.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Registered Nurse with routine patient care tasks, including personal hygiene, feeding, and mobility support.
• Monitor and record basic patient observations such as temperature, pulse, and blood pressure.
• Help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, families, and staff.
• Support the implementation of hospice core values and mission in everyday practice.
• Participate in mandatory training, competency assessments, and continuous education programmes.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to deliver coordinated care.
• Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families.

Required profile

• A caring and empathetic nature with a genuine desire to help patients.
• Ability to work effectively with colleagues from a variety of disciplines.
• Willingness to work unsupervised when required and follow established protocols.
• Flexibility to cover day, night, weekend, and overtime shifts.
