Associate Manager - Safety

About the role

The Section Head – Safety is responsible for overseeing all safety aspects of the power station, ensuring a safe working environment through proper planning, hazard identification and compliance with regulations. This role leads safety awareness initiatives, conducts audits, and manages the safety budget across multiple plant locations.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and enforce safety protocols, organize inductions, vertigo tests and mass awareness programs such as Safety Mela and weekly MTBT.
• Train trainers on safety standards and coordinate community safety awareness with the CSR department.
• Monitor PPE usage, participate in mock emergency drills, and conduct internal safety audits at BTG, DM Plant, CW Pump house and Switch Yard.
• Attend OH&S Committee meetings, contractor safety meetings, and review agency method statements for critical activities.
• Lead 5S and AWMS initiatives, conduct departmental audits and contribute to National Quality Circle activities.
• Oversee the safety department’s budget, review contractual safety requirements, prepare monthly safety activity plans and MIS reports.
• Perform Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) and define control measures for both critical and non‑critical tasks.

Required profile

• Proven experience in industrial safety management, preferably in the power or infrastructure sector.
• Strong ability to conduct safety audits, risk assessments and lead emergency preparedness drills.
• Excellent coordination skills to work with internal teams, contractors and community stakeholders.
• Capability to manage safety budgets and prepare detailed MIS reports.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of safety protocols, PPE standards and regulatory compliance.
• Experience with Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) methodologies.
• Familiarity with 5S, AWMS and safety audit procedures.
• Ability to develop and deliver safety training and awareness programs.
