Assistant Legal Counsel

About the role

The Assistant Legal Counsel will provide comprehensive legal support to the bank’s various business units, ensuring that all operations comply with applicable laws and regulations. This role involves drafting and negotiating contracts, advising on regulatory matters, and assisting with litigation and dispute resolution.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, MOUs, NDAs, and other legal documents while mitigating risk.
• Provide day‑to‑day legal advice to business, operations, HR, risk, and compliance teams, interpreting banking laws and RBI guidelines.
• Assist in managing litigation, arbitration, and regulatory proceedings, coordinating with external counsel and preparing case briefs.
• Monitor regulatory changes, ensure compliance with banking laws, RBI directions, and other statutory requirements.
• Identify legal risks in business proposals and recommend mitigation measures; develop legal policies, processes, and standard templates.
• Liaise with regulators, law firms, and statutory authorities, building strong internal stakeholder relationships.

Required profile

• LL.B. degree (mandatory); LL.M. preferred.
• 2–5 years of experience in a bank, NBFC, law firm, or corporate legal department, preferably with exposure to banking/financial services.
• Strong knowledge of banking and financial legislation such as the Banking Regulation Act, RBI regulations, Companies Act, and Contract Act.
