Assistant Editor – Scientific Journals

About the role

We are seeking an Assistant Editor to manage manuscripts across the editorial lifecycle for a portfolio of high‑impact scientific journals. The role acts as a bridge between authors, reviewers and internal editorial teams, ensuring a fair, efficient and high‑quality peer‑review process.

Key responsibilities

• Screen new submissions for scope, scientific quality, originality and research integrity.
• Make initial editorial decisions and provide clear, constructive rationales.
• Select, invite and manage peer reviewers to secure timely, high‑quality reviews.
• Evaluate reviewer reports and decide on acceptance, rejection, revision or referral.
• Assess revised manuscripts and author responses to determine next steps.
• Recommend alternative journals within the portfolio when appropriate.
• Commission articles, special issues and invited content aligned with journal strategy.
• Track invited‑content pipelines and maintain contributor communications.
• Analyze editorial performance data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
• Collaborate with senior editors and participate in training to enhance editorial workflows.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant academic discipline.
• Post‑doctoral research experience preferred.
• Subject‑matter expertise in physical sciences, engineering, life sciences, health sciences or social sciences.
• Experience with scholarly publishing or peer review as author, reviewer or editor.
• International research experience is strongly preferred.
• Strong analytical, decision‑making and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a hybrid work environment.
