Assistant Editor – Peer Review Management (Pune)

About the role

The Peer Review Management team within Springer Nature’s Editorial Operations Department is looking for an Assistant Editor to support the journal portfolio in Pune. The role bridges authors, editors, and reviewers, ensuring manuscripts move smoothly from submission to final decision while maintaining high editorial standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform enhanced quality and suitability checks on incoming manuscripts.
• Manage the journal pipeline, processing manuscripts from “Ready for editorial” to final decision.
• Invite and assign Editorial Board Members (EBMs) or appropriate handling editors.
• Support editors throughout the review process and maintain strong working relationships.
• Handle email correspondence with authors, reviewers, editors, and other stakeholders.
• Assess handling editors’ recommendations and communicate final decisions to authors.
• Monitor review progress, provide assistance to meet timelines, and mentor new team members.
• Analyse journal performance, identify challenges, and propose improvements.

Required profile

• Experience in manuscript handling and peer‑review workflows.
• Strong written communication skills for interacting with authors, reviewers and editors.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and maintain attention to detail.
• Proactive attitude with a focus on continuous improvement of editorial processes.
