Surveyor – Quality Inspection Engineer

About the role

The Surveyor is responsible for performing complex quality inspections of equipment, products, installations and buildings to verify conformity with standards, specifications and regulations. Working independently with minimal supervision, the role covers a wide range of industrial assets and supports the Bureau Veritas Quality Assurance System.

Key responsibilities

• Review contractual and technical requirements, including standards and specifications.
• Inspect pumps, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, compressors, valves, structural steels, storage tanks and related components from raw material to final stage.
• Conduct stage‑wise inspection of welding, fabrication, NDT, and perform hydraulic and pneumatic leakage tests.
• Inspect piping systems, including dimensional checks, spool inspection and component verification at fabricator sites.
• Assess pipes and tubes (ERW, SS) according to ASTM, IS and API standards, including U.T., eddy‑current, MPT and hydro‑testing.
• Perform vendor audits, evaluate quality control systems and rate manufacturers.
• Monitor, coach and supervise junior inspectors.

Required profile

• BE/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• 7–10 years of relevant inspection experience.
• NDT Level‑2 certification in Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Testing (MT) and Penetrant Testing (PT).
• Hands‑on experience with fabrication work and industrial equipment inspection.

Required skills

• NDT Level‑2 (RT, UT, MT, PT).
• Knowledge of ASME Section VIII, ASTM, IS and API standards.
• Welding inspection and documentation review (QAP, WPS, PQR, WPQR).
• Hydrostatic and pneumatic testing of pressure equipment.
• Inspection of pumps, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, compressors, valves and storage tanks.
• Piping and steel structure inspection for hydro‑power projects.
