Senior Software Engineer – Kernel/Driver

About the role

Arista Networks is seeking world‑class Senior/Lead Network Systems software engineers to design and build novel features that control hardware components on switches and routers. The role involves writing software for temperature sensors, fan controllers, power controllers, storage devices, FPGAs, NICs and PCIe switches, and creating abstractions that enable easy integration into hardware drivers.

Key responsibilities

• Interface with customers, product management and hardware engineers to define innovative network‑systems features.
• Architect, design and manage the development of these features using C, C++ and Python.
• Build automated tests and test infrastructure to validate new functionality.
• Collaborate with hardware and manufacturing teams to bring new hardware to market.
• Design optimal software control interfaces for managing hardware components.
• Provide technical leadership across features, projects and tools.
• Work with Customer Support Engineers and customers to troubleshoot and resolve issues in deployed networks.
• Mentor junior engineers and help them become productive in Arista’s development environment.

Required profile

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field with at least 4 years of experience.
• Expert knowledge of C or C++ and Python.
• Strong understanding of UNIX/Linux environments.
• Hands‑on experience designing hardware device drivers or system‑management utilities.
• Applied software‑engineering principles, strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work in small teams.
