Senior AI Engineer – Generative AI & LLMs

About the role

Avathon is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to design, develop, and deploy cutting‑edge Generative AI and Large Language Model solutions that power autonomous operations across heavy‑industry sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy production‑grade AI/ML systems with a focus on Generative AI and LLM‑powered applications.
• Develop and optimise end‑to‑end LLM pipelines, including retrieval‑augmented generation, fine‑tuning, prompt orchestration and observability.
• Build scalable backend services and APIs that support AI workflows, ensuring reliability and performance.
• Implement transformer‑based models and vector‑search systems for knowledge‑intensive enterprise use cases.
• Collaborate with product, engineering and business teams to translate operational challenges into scalable AI solutions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning or a related field.
• 3–6 years of hands‑on industry experience in AI/ML engineering, with a proven track record of deploying LLM‑based applications.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including system design, debugging, performance optimisation and production reliability.
• Ability to work autonomously in a fast‑moving startup environment and communicate effectively across technical and business stakeholders.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• AI/ML frameworks: PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, LangChain, LlamaIndex.
• Deep knowledge of transformer architectures, LLM fine‑tuning, prompt engineering and Retrieval‑Augmented Generation.
• Experience with vector databases and embedding‑based search systems.
• Building scalable APIs and backend services for AI workflows.
• Cloud platforms: AWS, GCP or Azure.
• Containerisation and deployment pipelines (CI/CD, Docker/Kubernetes).
• MLOps practices including model lifecycle management and observability.
