Lead LV Protection Engineer

About the role

GE Grid Solutions is seeking a Lead LV Protection Engineer to join its HVDC Centre of Excellence in Stafford. The role involves leading the design, testing and deployment of protection systems for high‑voltage direct current (HVDC) projects.

Key responsibilities

• Capture and analyse customer requirements for HVDC protection.
• Define protection strategy and design protection schemes for substations.
• Perform power‑flow, short‑circuit, protection and instrumentation studies.
• Review and support single‑line diagrams and schematics related to protection.
• Prepare comprehensive calculation notes for the protection system.
• Develop test specifications, detailed test plans and procedures; lead and supervise test execution.
• Lead and support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for protection equipment.
• Collaborate with project managers, technical experts and site teams to ensure successful delivery.
• Interface with equipment suppliers, monitor cabinet manufacturing and supervise FAT activities.
• Participate in technical problem investigations and establish corrective procedures.

Required profile

• Proven experience in protection system engineering for HVDC or high‑voltage projects.
• Strong analytical skills for power‑system calculations and studies.
• Ability to lead test activities and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
• Excellent communication skills to work with international teams.
