Legal Consultant – Human Rights Litigation (1-year contract)

About the role

ADF India, together with its partner organisations, seeks a Legal Consultant to provide legal aid to individuals targeted because of their religion or gender. The role involves counseling clients, conducting legal research, drafting documents, and representing clients in criminal and civil matters, including appearances before High Courts and the Supreme Court of India.

Key responsibilities

• Handle litigation matters independently or with colleagues before various courts and tribunals.
• Attend court hearings, provide regular updates to the Team Leader, and represent clients in criminal and civil proceedings.
• Provide legal advice, counsel clients, and prepare advocacy briefs on constitutional and human‑rights issues.
• Collate evidence, review witness statements, and conduct case‑law research.
• Draft pleadings, legal notices, and other legal documentation.
• Engage in strategy discussions with leadership and external counsel.
• Deliver training, seminars, and reports on religious freedom and female foeticide.
• Travel for court appearances, client meetings, and related activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in law (LL.B.) with 3‑5 years of litigation experience.
• Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team, with demonstrated leadership and networking skills.
• Professional, polite, attentive, and able to manage multiple complex projects under pressure.
• Willingness to maintain client confidentiality and adhere to approval processes before document execution.

Required skills
