Hydromechanical Expert – Hydropower & Pumped Storage Projects

About the role

AECOM is seeking a highly experienced Hydromechanical Expert to lead the design, engineering and execution of hydromechanical systems for hydropower and pumped‑storage projects. The role spans the full project lifecycle, from feasibility studies through to commissioning, and involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and engineering of intake gates, spillway gates, stoplogs, trash racks, penstocks, embedded parts and hoisting equipment.
• Perform hydraulic and structural calculations, review technical specifications, drawings and tender documents, and ensure compliance with international codes such as ICOLD, ASCE, AISC, Eurocodes, IS Codes and IEC.
• Coordinate with civil, hydraulic, structural, electrical and mechanical teams, provide technical input during feasibility, detailed design, procurement, fabrication, installation and commissioning phases.
• Conduct design reviews, HAZOP studies, value‑engineering exercises, factory and site inspections, and mentor junior engineers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master’s in Hydraulic Structures or related discipline preferred.
• Over 20 years of professional experience in hydromechanical systems for hydropower and pumped‑storage projects.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and deliver projects to international standards.

Required skills

• Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for hydromechanical structures.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, STAAD Pro, ANSYS and SAP2000.
• Strong knowledge of international standards and codes (ICOLD, ASCE, AISC, Eurocodes, IS Codes, IEC).
