Geotechnical Engineer – Hydropower & Pumped Storage Projects

About the role

We are seeking a highly competent Geotechnical Engineer with at least 10 years of experience in hydropower and pumped storage projects. The role involves geotechnical investigations, engineering analyses, and design of foundations, underground structures, slopes, and associated civil works, supporting projects from feasibility studies through detailed engineering, construction, and commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, supervise, and review geotechnical site investigations, including boreholes, geophysical surveys, in‑situ testing, and laboratory testing.
• Interpret geological, hydrogeological, and geotechnical data for engineering design of dams, intake/outlet structures, tunnels, surge shafts, underground powerhouses, penstock foundations, switchyards, and pumped‑storage reservoirs.
• Perform foundation assessments, bearing capacity, settlement, seepage, and slope stability analyses using rock mass classification systems (RMR, Q‑System, GSI).
• Design excavation support systems, rock bolting, shotcrete, retaining structures, grouting, drainage, and ground improvement measures.
• Prepare and review geotechnical design reports, calculations, technical specifications, and tender documents.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure integrated project design and review contractor submissions and instrumentation plans.
• Provide technical support during excavation, foundation treatment, underground construction, and commissioning, monitoring performance and recommending corrective actions.

Required profile

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (minimum requirement).
• Master's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Rock Mechanics, Engineering Geology, or related discipline preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in geotechnical engineering for hydropower and pumped‑storage projects.

Required skills

• Proficiency with geotechnical analysis software such as PLAXIS, FLAC/FLAC3D, Rocscience Suite (RS2, RS3, Slide2), GeoStudio, MIDAS GTS NX.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Office applications.
• Familiarity with Indian Standards (IS Codes), BIS guidelines for dams and underground structures, ICOLD Bulletins, Eurocodes, ASTM, and other international standards.
