Technical Writer

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to create clear, accurate documentation for its semiconductor and display software products. You will work with a distributed product team to translate complex technical information into user‑friendly guides, release notes, and online help.

Key responsibilities

• Review and contribute to software design specifications describing product enhancements and changes.
• Collaborate with software engineers, product managers, customer support, and quality assurance to gather product information.
• Install and use software locally and in virtual‑machine environments to explore features.
• Create diagrams and screenshots that illustrate software architecture and functionality.
• Author online Help, release notes, and installation instructions with clear overviews and step‑by‑step procedures.
• Ensure technically accurate, high‑quality documentation is delivered on schedule.
• Leverage AI tools to improve productivity and solve technical challenges.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, English, Technical Communication, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of technical writing experience, preferably in the software industry.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with ability to follow a corporate style guide.
• Proven skill interviewing subject‑matter experts to gather information.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
• General knowledge of software systems and a desire to understand product features.
• Capability to work both independently and collaboratively within a distributed team.

Required skills

• Experience with a programming or scripting language such as C#, PowerShell, or Python.
• Familiarity with the Microsoft Writing Style Guide.
• Experience working in an agile environment and using Jira for ticket tracking.
• Proficiency with MadCap Flare help‑authoring tool.
• Knowledge of UNIX or command‑line applications.
• Experience with version‑control systems like Git.
• Use of AI tools such as Copilot or Claude to enhance documentation workflows.
