Software Engineer III – Java (Bangalore)

About the role

Our team works with the Massmart Product team to modernize the legacy Point of Sales system for Makro, a Tier 0 retail platform. The position is based in Bangalore, India, and focuses on building scalable, high‑availability solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop new features for the Point of Sales system using modern Java technologies.
• Modernize the legacy architecture to improve scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Implement distributed, micro‑service based solutions with containerization.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery.
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines and support production operations.

Required profile

• 5‑8 years of overall software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in backend development.
• Strong background in Java, distributed systems, and large‑scale application design.
• Hands‑on experience with Kafka, Cassandra, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) and micro‑services.
• Proficiency in CI/CD practices and mentoring junior technical talent.
• Ability to write robust, high‑performance code using multithreading, data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.
