Senior Additive Manufacturing Engineer

About the role

L&T Technology Services is expanding its Additive Manufacturing Engineering team in Chennai. The Senior Additive Manufacturing Engineer will lead metal 3D‑printing projects, drive design optimisation and ensure successful transition from prototype to production.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for Metal AM projects and engineering initiatives.
• Support component design, redesign and optimisation for metal 3D‑printing applications.
• Develop manufacturable solutions using Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) principles.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to execute AM projects and assess build preparation, process planning and feasibility.
• Review and validate AM designs, manufacturing methods and technical deliverables.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to best‑practice development.

Required profile

• B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Metallurgy, Aerospace or Production Engineering.
• 10–15 years of hands‑on experience in metal additive manufacturing and metal 3D‑printing.

Required skills

• Expertise in Metal AM technologies: SLM, DMLS, LPBF, EBM.
• Strong knowledge of Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM).
• Experience with metal AM materials: Titanium alloys, Inconel, stainless steel, aluminum alloys, nickel‑based superalloys.
• Proficiency in CAD tools such as NX, CATIA, Creo or SolidWorks.
• Understanding of build orientation, support generation, topology optimisation and lattice structures.
• Knowledge of post‑processing, heat treatment, machining and inspection requirements for metal AM parts.
