Receptionist – Out of Hours GP Service

About the role

The Borders Emergency Care Service (BECS) is seeking a motivated Receptionist to join its Out of Hours GP clinical team. You will be the first point of contact for patients, families and healthcare colleagues, providing a professional telephony and front‑desk service.

Key responsibilities

• Answer and direct incoming calls for the Out of Hours GP service.
• Welcome visitors and manage the reception area.
• Accurately record patient information and update clinical systems.
• Support clinical workflows by handling referrals, appointments and urgent messages.
• Provide compassionate assistance to palliative‑care patients across the Scottish Borders.
• Work night and weekend shifts as part of a 24/7 service.

Required profile

• Excellent communication skills and a professional telephone manner.
• High level of accuracy when handling confidential information.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and remain calm under pressure.
• Previous NHS or healthcare experience is desirable but not essential.
