Patient Care Assistant – Oncology (Full‑Time)

About the role

The Patient Care Assistant provides direct bedside support to oncology patients, working under the supervision of a Team Leader and registered nurses. This full‑time, day‑shift position involves hands‑on care, assistance with activities of daily living, and execution of specific technical tasks to ensure patient comfort and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Measure and record vital signs, weight, height, and intake‑output data.
• Encourage patients to turn, cough, use incentive spirometry, and perform deep‑breathing exercises as ordered.
• Assist patients with ambulation, transfers, wheelchair use, and transport within the unit.
• Provide morning and evening care including bed baths, oral hygiene, grooming, dressing, linen changes, and bedside cleaning.
• Manage nutritional support by distributing meals, feeding, and maintaining water supplies.
• Empty and document drains, canisters, urine bags, bedpans, and emesis basins.
• Maintain a safe environment by reporting equipment issues and handling linen and supplies appropriately.
• Perform specialized tasks such as phlebotomy, EKG acquisition, ostomy bag care, specimen collection, and application of compression devices.
• Respond promptly to call lights, attend to patient requests, and report significant clinical changes.

Required profile

• Ability to work under direct supervision of nursing staff.
• Physical stamina to lift, turn, and reposition patients safely.
• Strong attention to detail for accurate documentation of vitals and intake‑output.
• Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and compassionate care.

Required skills

• Phlebotomy (with required training).
• Electrocardiogram (EKG) acquisition (with required training).
