Entry-Level Legal Counsel – Product (Hybrid)

About the role

The Counsel I is an entry‑level legal position that provides guidance and thought leadership to the business on product‑related matters. The role combines a solid understanding of the financial services industry with practical knowledge of the laws and regulations across the geographies where Citi operates.

Key responsibilities

• Support the business by delivering legal guidance on strategic initiatives and interpreting relevant laws, regulations and industry practices.
• Evaluate business proposals, manage documentation in line with preservation and retention requirements, and apply Citi’s risk appetite.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external counsel to coordinate routine operative matters and ensure consistent outcomes globally.
• Negotiate and prepare ISDA Master Agreements, Global Master Repurchase Agreements, Global Securities Lending Agreements and related trading documentation.
• Conduct due‑diligence reviews to confirm enforceability of agreements and compliance with capital‑rule standards.
• Track deviation approvals and ensure documentation meets legal, regulatory and Citi policy requirements.
• Manage data input for trading documentation systems and support regional teams on related queries.
• Participate in global regulatory and remediation projects, escalating issues as appropriate.

Required profile

• 0–2 years of relevant experience, preferably in banking or financial services.
• Knowledge of banking regulations and international laws affecting the business.
• Experience with complex deals and ability to analyze issues to develop legal solutions.
• Strong communication and negotiation abilities, with a proven track record of building trusted relationships.
• Bar license in good standing and a Juris Doctorate (or equivalent law degree).
• Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, hybrid environment.
