Data Modeler/Architect – VP

About the role

Barclays is looking for a senior Data Modeler/Architect to shape its data strategy across Markets. You will translate raw information into actionable insights, drive innovative data solutions and ensure regulatory compliance while collaborating with senior technical and business leaders.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute a multi‑year data architecture vision for Markets, aligning with business goals and regulatory drivers.
• Govern enterprise and domain data models, ensuring accuracy, re‑use, interoperability and traceability.
• Provide architectural leadership for data products and platforms, guaranteeing semantic consistency across cloud and on‑prem environments.
• Lead data architecture governance, setting standards for modelling, metadata, lineage and compliance review.
• Advise CDOs, CIOs, COOs and other senior leaders on complex design decisions and cross‑functional initiatives.

Required profile

• Significant experience in data architecture or enterprise data modelling, preferably within a major bank or investment bank.
• Strong understanding of banking products, risk frameworks, regulatory data requirements and financial‑markets data.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and work collaboratively across functions.

Required skills

• Data‑modelling tools and frameworks; experience scaling models globally.
• Relational databases: Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL.
• Columnar stores: Amazon Redshift, Snowflake.
• NoSQL: MongoDB, Cassandra.
• Advanced SQL (DDL, DML, performance tuning), PL/SQL, T‑SQL.
• Python or Shell scripting for data validation and automation.
• Data‑warehousing concepts (Inmon, Kimball) and ETL tools such as Informatica.
• Cloud platforms: AWS (S3, Redshift, Glue, Lake Formation) and familiarity with Azure.
• Knowledge of data‑governance frameworks and regulatory standards (e.g., BCBS239, GDPR).
