Catering Assistant – Part‑time (Weekends)

About the role

The NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking a part‑time Catering Assistant to work at Vale of Leven Hospital on weekends. You will support the delivery of high‑quality meals to patients, staff and visitors, ensuring a clean and safe kitchen environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide catering services in kitchen and ward areas, taking patient food orders and serving meals at ward level.
• Regenerate patient meals centrally or at the ward, and plate meals as directed by nursing staff.
• Clean and wash all equipment, machinery and crockery associated with catering services.
• Assist food production staff with basic meal preparation and handle picking & packing of meal components.
• Maintain compliance with Food Hygiene Regulations and HACCP procedures, completing daily/weekly sign‑off sheets.
• Report faulty equipment, operate the cash register and manage cash handling at point of service.
• Adhere to health and safety policies, manual handling guidelines and personal hygiene standards.

Required profile

• Knowledge of catering services (training will be provided for new starters).
• Flexible approach to daily routine and ability to work Saturdays and Sundays.
• Willingness to wear protective clothing and follow cleaning agent instructions.
• Ability to complete HACCP paperwork and other required documentation.
