Associate Director – Data, Technology & IP Legal Counsel

About the role

Flipkart Group is looking for an Associate Director who will serve as the Legal Counsel for Data, Technology and Intellectual Property. The role will protect the company’s digital innovations, AI‑GenAI developments, data assets and IP portfolio while ensuring compliance with relevant technology, data and IP regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Advise internal teams on IP protection strategies, including trademarks, copyrights, designs, trade secrets and patents.
• Manage and coordinate IP portfolio filings, prosecution, registrations and enforcement together with external counsel.
• Partner with engineering, product, commercial and marketing teams to assess IP risks, define patent strategies and ensure open‑source software compliance.
• Support IT, cybersecurity, data governance and enterprise risk initiatives, covering data privacy, security and licensing matters.
• Assist in the implementation of privacy policies and conduct privacy impact assessments.
• Provide legal guidance to Ethics & Compliance, Trust & Safety, Infosec and other cross‑functional groups.

Required profile

• Law degree with a strong background in technology, data protection and intellectual property law.
• Proven experience advising large technology or e‑commerce organisations on IP and data‑related matters.
• Ability to work collaboratively with engineering, product and risk teams in a fast‑paced environment.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Indian technology, AI, data protection and IP legislation.
• Experience with IP portfolio management and enforcement.
• Familiarity with data privacy frameworks and cybersecurity compliance.
