Zonal Merchant Lead

About the role

The Zonal Merchant Lead is responsible for driving merchant acquisition, activation and growth across a defined geographic zone. This role combines sales leadership, market visibility, and cross‑functional coordination to expand the merchant network and increase transaction throughput.

Key responsibilities

• Manage sales and distribution activities within the assigned circle.
• Acquire new merchants, both small and large‑format retailers.
• Leverage geographic knowledge to optimise resource deployment for merchant operations.
• Activate merchants and ensure brand visibility in the marketplace.
• Support cross‑functional teams to foster merchant business growth.
• Oversee merchant servicing and relationship management.
• Plan and execute strategies to meet targets for acquisition, activation, unique customers and throughput.
• Train, develop and mentor team leads and merchant executives.
• Coordinate with marketing, MIS and other support functions to maximise business support.
• Monitor competition and develop winning market strategies.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of the local geography and retail landscape.
• Proven experience in sales, merchant acquisition or retail channel development.
• Ability to lead, train and mentor a multi‑level team.
• Excellent coordination skills with cross‑functional departments.
• Strategic mindset with a focus on market competition and growth.
