About the role
The Highways team at Darlington Borough Council is recruiting three Trainee Highways Operatives on a two‑year fixed‑term contract. You will be trained to maintain streets and footpaths while working towards an NVQ Level 2 in Highways Construction.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with the maintenance and construction of highways, including paving, kerbing, tarmac, concrete and drainage works.
- Support major scheme projects and routine street‑level repairs.
- Follow health and safety procedures at all times.
- Attend and complete all required training modules.
- Work towards achieving NVQ Level 2 qualification.
Required profile
- No prior experience required – full training will be provided.
- Commitment to complete the two‑year training programme.
- Ability to work full‑time on site in Darlington.
- Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
