Technical Lead - Software Engineer

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a Technical Lead to design and build software that powers semiconductor manufacturing automation. You will work closely with product teams, domain experts, and customers to translate complex operational challenges into reliable, high‑impact software solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of scalable, reliable software for semiconductor manufacturing automation.
• Define architecture and technical direction across services, balancing scalability, reliability, simplicity and maintainability.
• Work across the full stack – frontend, backend, databases, messaging, Kubernetes configurations, AI‑powered components and Helm charts.
• Partner with product managers and domain experts to understand workflows and deliver solutions that improve productivity, quality and throughput.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews and technical coaching.
• Improve system reliability, observability, performance and operational excellence.

Required profile

• 8+ years of software engineering experience building production‑grade systems.
• Strong foundation in software design, distributed systems, data structures, algorithms and system architecture.
• Ability to select the right tool for a problem, simplify complex architectures and balance short‑term delivery with long‑term maintainability.
• Curiosity about how products create business value and willingness to learn domain knowledge quickly.
