TBM Operator

About the role

We are seeking a skilled TBM Operator to safely and efficiently run an EPB Tunnel Boring Machine on our underground construction projects. The role involves close coordination with engineering and segment erector teams to achieve production targets while maintaining strict safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Operate the EPB TBM according to approved operating parameters, method statements, and manufacturer guidelines.
• Control and monitor TBM systems such as face pressure, advance rate, torque, thrust, cutterhead speed, screw conveyor, and slurry/soil conditioning.
• Adjust TBM parameters in response to changing geological conditions under guidance of the TBM Maintenance Engineer.
• Continuously monitor machine performance, alarms, and instrumentation to prevent breakdowns and unsafe conditions.
• Coordinate with segment erector operators and backup crews during ring building and advance cycles.
• Ensure compliance with safety procedures, including emergency response and confined‑space protocols.
• Accurately maintain operation logs, production reports, and shift handover records.
• Support planned maintenance activities and assist during cutterhead inspections and planned stoppages.
• Communicate effectively with shift supervisors, engineers, and control rooms regarding ground conditions, machine behavior, and production issues.
• Participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings, and operational training sessions.

Required skills

• Proficient in operating EPB Tunnel Boring Machines.
• Ability to monitor and adjust TBM system parameters (face pressure, advance rate, torque, thrust, cutterhead speed).
• Experience with maintaining detailed operation logs and production reports.
• Knowledge of safety procedures for confined‑space and emergency response in underground environments.
