Systems Engineer II – Linux & Solaris

About the role

The Systems Engineer II will support Honeywell Building Automation’s IT infrastructure by designing, implementing and maintaining Linux and Solaris based platforms. The role focuses on system integration, network configuration and automation to ensure reliable operation of building control solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Install, test and commission AGL and CMS applications on CentOS/Linux environments.
• Develop and maintain shell scripts and Perl scripts for system automation and troubleshooting.
• Configure, implement and administer servers, application and network devices across distributed sites.
• Design IT infrastructure architecture, including hardware, network topology and security services.
• Provide hands‑on support for Sun Solaris platforms, including command‑line troubleshooting and device interfacing.
• Manage TCP/IP‑based services such as HTTP, FTP, SSH and SMTP, and maintain Cisco switches and routers.
• Create and update system diagrams using Microsoft Visio.
• Document configurations, procedures and incident resolutions.

Required profile

• 2–3 years of experience with CentOS/Linux system administration and shell scripting.
• Strong knowledge of Sun Solaris operating system and related commands.
• Practical experience with network fundamentals (OSI model, Ethernet, TCP/IP).
• Familiarity with Cisco networking equipment and common monitoring/security utilities.
• Ability to read and modify Perl scripts and complex shell scripts.
• Relevant certifications in Red Hat or Solaris are a plus.
