Staff Software Engineer, Integration

About the role

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead our Integrations team at Cohere Health. In this role you will design, develop and scale highly available healthcare integration systems that support prior‑authorization workflows across providers, payers and delegated entities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership on architecture, system design, scalability and reliability.
• Design and build resilient, high‑performing platforms for enterprise integrations.
• Lead development and maintenance of secure integrations with internal and external partners.
• Drive cloud infrastructure, deployment automation and CI/CD practices on AWS.
• Design event‑driven, distributed architectures using Kafka, SQS and SNS.
• Establish monitoring, observability and incident response processes.
• Champion automated testing, quality engineering and production support.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to hiring and career development.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 11+ years of software development experience building scalable enterprise and distributed systems.
• Proven ability to lead autonomous agile teams and influence technical decisions.

Required skills

• Java, Groovy, Spring Boot.
• RESTful API design and secure authentication/authorization.
• Relational and non‑relational database modeling.
• Event‑driven architecture with Apache Kafka, AWS SQS and SNS.
• Cloud infrastructure on AWS, Terraform IaC, Docker containers.
• CI/CD pipeline design, deployment automation and DevOps practices.
• Observability, monitoring and alerting tools.
• Healthcare interoperability standards: HL7 FHIR, X12 EDI, HL7 v2.
• Clinical ontologies: SNOMED CT, LOINC, ICD‑10.
