Staff Software Engineer I - SRE

About the role

Confluent Cloud processes millions of events per second across AWS, GCP, and Azure. The team needs an expert-level engineer to drive proactive reliability improvements, reduce incident frequency, and shape incident response practices.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze systemic failure patterns and design improvements that prevent incident recurrence.
• Define and maintain SLO/SLA frameworks, using error budgets to guide reliability investments.
• Build tooling and automation to reduce incident response toil and scale team impact.
• Own Rootly configuration and integrations with PagerDuty, Jira, Confluence, and Slack.
• Develop and deliver training programs, coach teams through post‑mortems, and act as on‑call Incident Commander.
• Partner with engineering leaders to elevate reliability practices across the organization.

Required profile

• 10+ years in SRE, incident management, or reliability engineering.
• Hands‑on experience with at least one cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Deep expertise with incident management tools such as Rootly or PagerDuty.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and failure modes, preferably with Kafka/event streaming.
• Extensive experience with observability, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and SLO/SLA frameworks.
